Why Pozoo ?

Hi, I am Sebastien. Entrepreneur, hacker, builder, Electrical Vehicules enthusiast, out of Belgium.

For the past 20 years, I have been contracting fixed price electricity contracts with incumbent suppliers in Belgium. I have been lazy, and never made the effort to understand the details of my electricity bills. The following have always been kind of a mistery to me:

- daily kWh usage. No smart meters at the time.
- average total cost per kWh. Supplier will drown this info in the invoices.
- day vs night cost differences
- comparison of my fixed contract with other contracts and variable contracts

I have had an EV for 6 years now, and a big part of my electricity bill now comes from my EV charging. However, I have no idea about the proportion this is taking in my overall usage.

... Enough is enough. There must be a better way to this.

After looking on the market, I could not find an easy solution to meet these goals:

- Understand in details my electricity bill
- Compare my electricity contract with other options. Not generic offers, but applying my actual historical electricity usage.
- Optimize my EV charging usage in order to spend less.

In this research, I discovered the concept of "Electricity supply dynamic contracts"  for consumers. Dynamic contracts are contracts where costs evolves by the hour, in correlation with the wholesale market. If you can control you consumption, there is a huge opportunity here to lower your bill, and help stabilize the grid (more on this in a later post).

I decided to start a side project to adress my pain (and hopefuly other's also) and build a web platform to: 

- facilitate electricity consumption measurement
- understand detailed costs, including hour by hour dynamic contract costs
- compare costs with other contracts
- automate the charge of my EV at times when costs are low

... the name is Pozoo ...
